Reasons for signing this Referendum:
• Equality for tribal members.
• Allows all tribal members a fair chance to get on Council.
• Opens up job opportunities for all.
• Encourages new ideas and promotes trust.
• Brings fiscal responsibility & accountability.
• More opportunities for input & new ideas from other tribal members.
• Gives the rights back to the people – not just a few families!
• Ensures that politicians who have become ineffective get out.

What will happen by not signing this Referendum:
• Nepotism will continue.
• Large families will continue to dominate tribal politics.
• Government corruption continues.
• Council will continue to operate outside of their own outdated policy & procedures.
• Wasting the tribe’s money by funding political agendas will never end.
• Decisions made in a vacuum with no input are guaranteed to continue.
• Information will not be shared with the membership.
• Lame ducks – definition is a politician who has become weak & ineffective – will continue to hinder progress of the tribe!

Why have term limits? We have had a Council Member serving for 30 years who prides himself on how long he has been on Council, but what has he really accomplished? Yes, he was part of the Land Claims Settlement that sold out our Tribe and yes he was the Council Member who raised the per capita to $2000.00 a month that has ultimately is bankrupting our Tribe and yes he was serving on Council when the Elder's Facility finally got built, but he can't take credit for that. If it wasn't for Henry, David, James and Nancy that facility would still be a broken promise. When will the membership finally come to the realization that he is only on Council to benefit himself or his own family or close friends? Now that it's election season he wants to attend Elder's Luncheons. We could probably count on one hand the number of times he has come to the luncheon's within the last three years. I know other Elder's have noticed the same thing. When it comes to hard decisions he is never around...how convenient is that? Is that so he can say he didn't know or wasn't a part of it? When will enough be enough? When will the Tribal Member's see what so many of us have been seeing for so many years? What about the accountability at the casino? Does his brother still receive a full 80 hours of pay when he doesn't come to work? Did he do anything when Tribal Law was violated because Frank Wright was writing fraudulent checks at OUR casino? Did he support Tribal Gaming when they brought this to the Council's attention? No he didn't. Is this because he and Frank have been good ol' boys for so long? Whenever you go to the building he is never there. Does he get paid for not being at work? He wants the glory of being on Council, but none of the responsibility. I think we all need to really think about these questions when we go to cast our votes. We need Council Member's that are going to be here for our people and who care about our people not just when it's election season. THAT'S WHY WE NEED TERM LIMITS!

I wish to clarify a fact, and that is that I am not "Thunderspeaker", and if you'll notice in my previous postings, that I always sign what I write. I don't know who this person is or who this person is referring to. Personally, I am to busy doing my business, and don't know half the accusations or incinuations of this posting. The Puyallup tribal council has been supportive of our sobriety dances and events, family canoe, and helpful when we were involved in that terrible car wreck 3 yrs ago. I want to be known for doing good and being a positive influence and represent my tribe in the best light as possible. I feel terrible that Herman, Bill, Sylvia, and whoever else may have thought I would write or wrote this posting. As well, I'm not around the admin. bldg to know of any of these allegations, because I rarely have any reason to be at the bldg. I extend my apologize to those whom may have been hurt by thinking it may have been me writing such a posting. signed Robert Satiacum

I have worked for the tribe for almost 20 years in this time i have witnessed many wrong doings but i like to do good things for people whomever they are i am noones judge and try to treat everyone with the respect that i would like to get back. many times though this does not happen this guy tried to fire me and i was put into a diferent division but still retained my duties within the tribe i try not to say to much as there are many people that are just out for their own interests and would say anything to make some people look bad i believe that is the wrong way i challenge you to come out whoever wrotye this and used the name thunderspeaker.

bring your drum an ill bring mine whenever i go to sing at a ceremony or an event these dudes will stand by me to make themselves try to look good in this native way i kinda dont like that if you want to be native you have to learn dont stand by me to try an make yourselves look good as that is embarrising to me and my relatives if you want we can have a song contest.

only 755 people voted in the tribal election with 4,000 plus enrolees today their should be at least 2,000 eligible voters thats kinda embarrising if you ask me. And, to talk about our people without being brave enough to say who you are is embarrising as well anyway.

anyway whoever you are thunderlips speaker, i dare you to come out show your true identity dont hide behind an imaginary name you must get to know your people if you are a puyallup even who knows i guess only you an the creator know for sure instead of talking bad about the leaders you should try and be one first.

bring your drum lets have a sing off i dare you

Often tribal members will send me (the webmaster and your sweatlodge buddy from the South Tacoma Tribe) items they wish to post anonymously on PuyallupNation.com. We have attributed the name "Thunderspeaker" to some of them, although they were written by several different tribal members. I know there are a lot of folks that are upset and looking for a place to be heard and at the same time keep their job or not have their Puyallup brothers and sisters up in their face about it. There are many other things that were written in anger that haven't been posted. Often Robert and I have discussed taking the PuyallupNation.com Blog down because it has gotten so negative. However we greatly appreciate people such as your self who bring it back to the positive side. Thanks for your comments.

Even though I am an outsider, I am an advocate for electing leaders who serve the people and not their self-interests. It is important for leaders not to be corrupt and to give the rights back to the people.

What happened with this in the end? We need reform like any institution and that is what tribes are. People need to stop thinking younger people want to get rid of tradition, we don't, we just want to improve our systems. We want the most able to lead not those who were born in the right family!
