Good leaders are servants of the people, not pigs at the trough

Again it is election time for the Puyallup Nation and it saddens me to see some of the names that made it to the “top tier” of the ballot.
I want to say first that
I am very proud that Nancy Shippentower-Games has made it to the general election. I pray that our tribe comes to its senses and elects her to join David and James in the great work they are doing. I believe in the principles and goals of Full Circle, and see they are making a positive difference in our tribe.
The other folks on the ballot represent the blatant corruption, favoritism dishonesty that has plagued our government many years.
A simple
Google search on their names of uncovers many of the facts about these candidates:
Silvia Miller:”In her first term, she got the tribe to pay almost $20,000.00 in back income taxes, her second term she got $25,000.00 for a down payment for a new house, HUD said this was theft of federal dollars and recommended legal action but the tribe now says, this was a tribal program, WE DON’T HAVE A DOWN PAYMENT PROGRAM again the tribal council covers it up. She put our housing funds at risk and after an investigation by HUD, the tribe had to re-pay over a Million dollars. She used her position to get her kids high paying jobs, which is another violation.”

Roleen Hargrove
“It is charged that Hargrove, who owned the Microdome Bingo near Tacoma, misinterpreted the new rules and thought she could turn her establishment into a full-fledged casino. Further it is alleged she ran up a $3.5 million debt when she contracted with a California company to lay out the infrastructure for a casino, using the Puyallup Tribe as collateral. Tribal members said she had borrowed an additional $500,000.
As part of the alleged deal with the council, documents show Hargrove would receive $4 million for the Microdome Bingo Hall. Sources said the property is in disrepair and has been appraised by different realtors at between $200,000 and $800,000.”

Herman Dillon Sr.
We all like Herman as a person and pray for his good health. However, he has - at best - presided over an era of sweet deals and favoritism for the friends and families of council members. Tribal Council has been a gravy train of "pigs at the trough" - feathering their beds at everyone-elses expense. Herman's personal gain has been the subject of much speculation: "A rent-free home for Tribal Chairman Herman Dillon Sr., a perk he has
enjoyed even when not serving as chairman of the 2,600-member tribe." -Seattle PI
The casino has been allowed to operate without any safeguards or oversight that are standard in the gaming industry. We are at risk of having our casino shut down by the Feds should any of our directors get caught with their hands in the cookie jar.
And what of this big Port Deal? We got… a port? …a lease agreement? Where in the deal is an importing and exporting agreement. We are a sovereign nation with direct rail access to 80 other sovereign Indian Nations around the country. Having the ability to trade goods duty free through Indian Country would make the casino money look like chump change. But where’s the leadership to make that happen?
Why do these folks continue to show up each election? Why do people keep voting for them? Yes, I know, its “The Families”. Well I have a question for “The Families”: IS THIS THE BEST YOU GOT? It used to be that good leaders were servants of the people. Don’t you have any real leaders in your family? People that have integrity and are hard-working? Why do you send up your bottom-feeders to lead this great Puyallup Nation? Don’t you have enough pride in your family and your tribe that you would elect someone that leads with honor? Are the perks your family gets worth the honor you sacrifice? Think about it, and vote wisely.
