PuyallupTribalNews.com: Keeping it Fresh ... or Not.
A few
regular visitors to this site have written in to ask why the site hasn’t been
updated lately. I wanted to personally apologize to readers for not making a
better effort to keep things updated and fresh.
My name is
Mark Celletti, and I’ve been the webmaster for PuyallupTribalNews.com since the
beginning in October 2003, with my friend Robert Satiacum. I designed, maintain
and host this site using my own time and money and have never asked for or
received any compensation for my efforts. I am a long-time friend and supporter
of the Puyallup Tribe and the local Native Community. (At the sweat lodge they
call me “South Tacoma Tribe”)
It
disturbed me that some of the complaints about the site not being updated were misdirected
at my friend James Miles. I just wanted to be clear that, while I am honored to
support James, David,
Our
intention in building this site was to create a community forum for all tribal
members to send in their stories, events, photos, etc. Somehow, we became a
sort of “Outlaw” web site and many members fear reprisal from Tribal
Administration by having their name associated with it.
I want to
ask again for your help. We can’t afford to hire staff to write our stories. We
rely on you and your words to keep this site fresh.
As we’ve said from the
beginning:
…This web site is a labor
of love staffed by volunteers dedicated to fostering connections and understanding
among members of the
We ask you, the Puyallup
Tribal Community, to join us by contributing materials to this site….
We will post anything for Tribal Members free of charge provided you say who you are and are respectful of others. “

I like to thank all of the full circle members. Without all of you stepping up to over come what we believed was a personal piggy bank for some council members and there family. With changing two seat on tribal council small change is happening and for that i am thankful. I believe that next year full circle will replace another council and even greater change will happen. Good luck to those Full circle candidates you have about 7month to get it done.

Good evening; we like to thank all of you who support us and to help us make a better life style for our future.
there are still many many changes that need to happen to complete the circle. People are responsible for their decisions, we as a tribe should question the decisions that are made on our behalf, to ask a question is not a crime.
I remember a time when we would get together to talk things out to get direction (get direction) from the legal team, and work together, as a tribe we should remember those people who fought the fishing wars, treaty rights and who gave everything so we can have what we have today.
So thanks to all of you to our ancestors, and to the future generations to our past leaders and to the ones who gave their all and did not abuse their seats on the tribal council, thanks

I just read todays Tacoma paper, what a sad day it is when they show case tribe verses tribe (nisqually vs. Frank landing) my Question is would Nisqually have what they have if it was'nt for my Elders at Franks landing suffering be murdered and fighting for our rights ?
hmmm the truth of the matter is if nisqually has jurisdiction over Franks landing then Puyallup should have jurisdiction over Nisqually..... dose anyone realise that Nisqually is a Bridges ancestrial name? and there was never even really a Nisqually tribe we were nomadic and traveled the fish runs, it was our families fishing grounds BRIDGES SQUALLY.... and i will always remember those who sacrificed for our rights especially my aunty Vallerie ...who payed with her Life .....

we the Puyallup tribe should close Chief Leschi schools, for having the highest drop out rate, the most staff to student assaults, the most student to student assaults, and the kids are 3 years behind normal grades in public schools, the most personal attacks on kids from staff members, the most nepotism from staff families , and racism in Washington st, and they use a stolen logo I made in 95.....and with this all funded by the B.I.A hmmm makes you wonder,,, let's close it and fund our own school once again... and hey dose anyone now that it resides on Puyallup tribal trust land ?

It has come to the attention from the newspaper that our firework stands will be in the baron lands of the old casino,.... We have had 5 years now to do some thing about that and it has not been done why ?
well let me elaborate, we have commissioners who have off site stands and close family members who do, when we had our stands on 29th st feild years ago we established buisness for over 30 years and the on site stands would take from local off site stands buisness... in some cases I can remember off site stand owners come down to our on site and gripe and complain about how lowsy there buisness was, in which 2 of them were commissioners ! so it has been a known fact that threw the years on site was developing a lucrative buisness over time and off site owners, well they would send there commissioners to harass and set up the families that were making money and new how, we would get searched more often and fined for selling m-80's even if there were none in evidence, The old commission trick was to shut down a lucrative stand on the 3rd so they wouldn't make there 4th $... this game was played as off site stands were going to the dogs and on site stands "the people" were flourishing... so what better place to put us onsite stands ? then the dumps in the port where hardly no one can find ? well here are some obvious reasons "monopoly by offsite stand commissioners who refuse to work for the best interest of the onsite stand owners" have you ever counted how many off site stands you had to pass before you reached the port onsite dumping grounds ? well one time I did from Tacoma and I counted 8.. that has become a filtering process now I don't now about you but if there is a stand close to my house wouldn't it be easier to go to ? hence forth the Satiacum village... 1/8 a mile from our old on site, and god dam wright they are capitalizing off the buisness that we established over the last 30 years down there on 29th. last year I had even seen signs pointing to fire cracker alley, I was like wow weight a minute I thought they were in the dumps of the port ? so I followed the signs there on Portland ave and guess were they lead me ? to the front door of Satiacum village ???? well not only capitalize on the established buisness but redirect it by using firecracker alley as well... wow talk about a monopolization. As we also find out other commissioners wanted a peice of the pie at the Satiacum village and had food stands and part ownerships. See the true resolve won't come from asking commission to do anything because they will blame council and council won't do anything because they will blame commission .. the true resolve will come from 2 seperate commissions 1 for offsite and the other for onsite so there will be no conflict of buisness and no bias decisions concerning there own buisness and site's as each commission will work dillagently for each site on and off as they are truelly seperate intites.

What an honor our tribe has given to the salmon people and our Elders by allowing our Elders to fish the spring chinook , what an awesome site it is to see them out there fishing our traditional run, our tribe has sure moved in the right direction with this .. I give this step an A+ the best step forward since my great uncle Al fought in the fishing wars and give him the credit he deserves......what we have today....

The McClouds;
I Would like to congratulate us in what has been accomplished in Native American country and the Medicine Creek Tribes of Puget Sound with the Strong willed spirit of Donald James McCloud & Janet McCloud his wife in leading the Fishing Right Struggle with their eight children and the others that followed in their path Donald was a Master Sergeant in the Army he was on the Missouri when lined up the Japanese to make them sign the treaty with US and realized that we had a treaty with the US The Medicine Creek Treaty so he came home and started doing the fish-ins and was the first to go to jail for it we have prospered from it I am a geoduck harvester and fish with my dad. To my Mom and Dad I would like to thank for being our parents to us Six, thier children for teaching us how to fish, hunt know the herbal plants to pick, be respectful Its wonderful to see my dad fish with his sister Nancy Who is now a Tribal Council member and congratulate her in that achievement and my dad for getting Don & Janets home to carry on their legacy aho!
